This is a species of owlfly, or long-horned antlion. unfortunately, it is not possible to offer a finer identification from the photo. ascalaphids are swift flyers, often hawking their prey at dusk. The larvae also resemble antlions and are "sit and wait or ambush predators" that sit on dry twigs or bark. Some cryptic species live under rocks in very hot dry situations. |
