Notes:   NOTE: All those King\'s Pool sightings were recorded during a late afternoon drive. The drive back to camp therefore became a de facto night drive, during which we recorded the following: LARGE-SPOTTED GENET Genetta tigrina with 2 kits LESSER BUSHBABY Galago moholi AFRICAN WILDCAT Felis lybica which was hunting a SPRINGHARE Pedetes capensis. Despite a fabulous pounce from the cat, the Springhare was quick enough to escape. PORCUPINE Hystrix africaeaustralis SPOTTED HYENA Crocuta crocuta Because it had by then become pitch dark, it was impossible to photograph any of these. Under the current system for the Virtual Museum, this means that all sightings of nocturnal activity are precluded. I would suggest that some thought is given as to how best to record night sightings, or half of the mammalian activity in the Southern African area will go unrecorded.

Comment:   I would say this is rather the Angolan Giraffe (Giraffa camelopardalis angolensis) due to distribution. This is now a recognized subspecie or race which occurs in Namibia, South-west Zambia, Northern Botswana and extreme west of Zimbabwe. Unfortunately now extinct from Angola. G. c. giraffa range is outside Northern Botswana.
