Notes:   A very common gerbil species on the long-grass termitaria floodplains. Important subsistence protein source for locals, who locate the burrows and dig the gerbils out after burning the grass. The gerbil populations don't seem to be impacted, and many escape into side-tunnels. The gerbils seem mostly to excavate grass rhizomes as food. After scorching the hair off with fire, they are gutted and then either boiled, roasted or fried, and are quite tasty!
