Notes:   In the field, torn between pale flycatcher and ashy flycatcher. Belly not white enough for Marico. Habit was upright as for ashy, but not grey tit-flycatcher. Could not really decide if the upperparts were pale blue-grey or pale brown-grey (settled on the latter).

Comments by the Expert Panel on this record:

Comment number:   1
By:   Lisl van Deventer
Comment:   White eye-ring extending as a short eye-brow to the bill, distinct black line through the eye, underparts more greyish than buffy, wings (especially the tertials) and tail has a slaty tint. Behaviour also distinct: Ashy Flycatcher is an arial feeder, hawks insects from a high perch and often has its head turned at an angle. Pale Flycatcher is a ground feeder, sitting on a lower perch to catch prey on the ground.
