Record details

BirdPix:   21375
Province:   KwaZulu-Natal
Country:   South Africa
Locus:   2930DD
Observer:   Jackson Mike; Linda Jackson
Date of record:   2015-10-18
Number of photos:   2
Notes:   The bird was perched twenty metres away, but could only see the head and neck through foliage. With binoculars, I saw a distinct yellow cere and base to both mandibles, with black tip. While getting camera focused, it swooped down and across the school sports field (being buzzed by smaller birds and two YB Kites) and perched some two hundred metres away. This time it's head was obscured, and a fair breeze made a descent photo impossible on full zoom. Similar sightings at this location at home was made earlier this year in March/April.
