There are two different species shown here. The first is A. festivus, the other looks like another Ascalaphus, but not sure.
A. festivus is common and widespread throughout the Afrotropical Region. Adults usually inhabit grassy areas where they hawk their prey at dusk in the manner of dragonflies. Eggs are laid in batches on leaves and stems, and the larvae, which resemble antlions, are sedentary ambush-predators. |
