This is the larva of a species of Syngenes, probably undescribed - currently under revision. They belong in the same tribe (Acanthaclisini) as the grey hirsute bark antlions. The large white larvae live in sand, often associated with rivers and, in one species S. longicornis, in coastal dune sand. The larvae are very active, but do not construct pits. Adults often form aggregations on the undersides of branches. |
