There was a very healthy population on a particular rock that was raided by the Zululand Orchid Society members that I took to Ongoye (one lady had about 10 large plants in her lap on the way back. Was the last time I showed anyone any of my special places. :(
As to scarcity the area is inaccessible to most people and so unlikely to be threated by less-serious collectors. The forest is heavily used by local communities, but as far as I know they don't target stenoglottis for muti. |
