Little mature male baboon spider. This 5 cm little guy wandered into my house and I would place it in the genus Brachionopus, (or Harpactirella) because there are no scopulae on the cheliserae and to me it, doesn't look like the pretoriae that we found last year, which was a stockier and darker spider. The underside of the abdomen is light brown without any bands and it has distinctive red setae on the bottom of the cheliserae. The spikey setae on the legs are visible from the femur to the metatarsus segments. It is a healthy and lively specimen but not very defensive. Patrick Gildenhuys commented as follows "The round carapace, and conical apical segment of the spinnerets, would lead me to think it is a Brachionopus" |
