This is a very unusual specimen, that I cannot even place to genus - sorry. it is characteristic in the blue-black coloration. Owlflies are active predators, usually hawing their prey on the wing at dusk. Most larvae live on branches and tree trunks and are well camouflaged ambush predators, while a few live under stones, often in very hot and arid conditions. |
