Comment:   This beautiful species is widespread throughout South Africa, but not frequently encountered. They usually rest on bark, twigs or fence-posts. The characteristic thoracic patterns also show very strikingly in the picture. The species extends beyond SA into Botswana, Namibia, Mozambique, Kenya, Tanzania and Somalia. The large black larvae live freely in sand. This is a very interesting record - it is known from the W Cape, but not yet specifically from Cape Town
