Comment:   This beautiful species is widespread throughout South Africa, but not frequently encountered. These pictures show the typical pose as they usually rest on bark, twigs or fence-posts. The characteristic thoracic patterns also show very strikingly in the pictures. The species extends beyond SA into Botswana, Namibia, Mozambique, Kenya, Tanzania and Somalia. The large black larvae live freely in sand.
