The genus Pamexis, “butterfly antlions” is endemic to the western and eastern Cape Provinces. They are highly cryptic when resting amongst fynbos or karoo vegetation or on lichen coloured rocks. Most species are bright yellow or greenish-white, with one brown species (that is now possibly extinct). P. karoo is the most widespread species in the genus, extending from the Cedarberg Mountains eastwards to the Grahamstown area, and possibly comprises a species complex. Larvae are unknown. |
