Probably C. brachygaster, but not sure. The genus is very widespread in the Afrotropical Region, but taxonomically complex because of the large numbers of species and, particularly, the numerous synonyms. Adults are cryptically grey, hirsute antlions. This is a freshly emerged (from cocoon)specimen in the process of unfurling and drying the wings. Note the almost-right-angle between thorax and abdomen - allowing the wings to drop down and unfurl. All lacewings require a vertical surface or overhand to facilitate this critical process. |
