Notes:   McMurtry, D.M. #5486: Perennial vlei. Terrestrial growing in a perennial vlei (in a paddock with local forester's horses). Only 5-6 plants. Note hand drawn 'map' of the locality attached to sheet. Fls grape-purple,mauve speckles. Colour slides available. Anecdote attached to sheet: Sandra Muller and I went to Box Thompson's to ask her and Gogo (her mother, who was reputedly hard of hearing) if they knew where 'Mooi Vlei' was. Gogo was crouched over a tiny portable radio 'not listening to our conversation'. After repeatedly goading Box to remember (she had collected D. hircicornis at Otterhalt in 1937) - Gogo looked up and said: 'Tell him (DM) that there's no such place as 'Mooi Vlei'' - she could still hear perfectly. But if you addressed her directly you had to shout and repeat the question.
