Comment:   A common and widespread species throughout the tropical and subtropics of Africa, occurring from southern KZN and North West Province through Africa to Cameroon and Ethiopia and Madagascar. Absent from the drier areas of southern Africa. Usually form large swarms in long grass under trees, hence the name “(as in the pictures). Larvae build pitfall traps and closely resemble those of Myrmeleon species. PS There have been previous records from Namibia - all from the Caprivi
