The lacewing family Coniopterygidae are known as “dusty lacewings” because of the white powdery exudate on the wings and body. They are the smallest of all lacewing species. The family is well represented in South Africa, but require more detailed examination to distinguish species. The predacious larvae prey on small soft-bodied Homoptera, aphids and scale insects and are very beneficial in agro-ecosystems as biological control agents. |
