this is probably Borniochrysa squamosa, but not sure. It is quite difficult to distinguish between the various green lacewing species without a close examination of the wing venation and the male genitalia. Borniochrysa squamosa is very widespread in the Afrotropical Region, including the Comores and Mascarene Islands. Even St Helena. Occurs in most provinces of SA, except apparently, the drier western areas. Its larvae feed on small Homoptera, including red scale on citrus, so, like all chrysopid larvae, is a valuable biocontrol agent. |
