The cacophonous chorus of a bunch of francolins and tree squirrels which could obviously see something which worried them very much indeed told us something was going on. Indeed there was. A mere twenty metres or so in front of us, a huge leguaan, or Nile monitor, was moving slowly through the grass. To our astonishment, he was carrying in his mouth an enormous bullfrog which was emitting belching grunts and croaks as it fought for its life in the great lizard?s mouth. Fifteen minutes later the stalemate remained unresolved. Reluctantly we moved on as the two contestants vanished into the long grass, the frog?s doleful croaking fading into the distance.
