Notes:   NOTE: The Savuti frogs seem to differ from the Delta frogs as follows: all we observed were essentially white. We have not recorded this in the Delta. Their colouration results in a behavioural difference as well in that the Savuti frogs, in contrast to Delta frogs, happily climb to the top of the reeds where their colouration protects them from the sun. This takes them out of the reach of predatory snakes which could otherwise capture them if they remained at lower levels. I have identified them, in the absence of other information, as H. parallelus, but this may be incorrect in that neither in appearance nor behaviour do they resemble the Delta Frogs. I would appreciate comment on these observations.

Comment:   Colouration in reed frogs is extremely variable, both within and between populations. Colouration also varies according to light intensity (sunlight), with frogs becoming whiter in bright light.
