Notes:   There are two islands in the middle of a dam on the Amber Valley retirement village property near Howick. One has a grove a blue gums growing on it and the other a single weeping willow. Both trees are home to a massive colony of southern masked weavers. On the blue gum island I counted 19 nests and on the willow island 12. Nest building activity is frenetic at the moment with males coming and going with nesting material all the time.
