Large numbers of elephant move in the dry season to the banks of the Chobe River, which is a permanent source of water. Feeding pressure upon the riverside vegetation is immense, giving the Botswana bank a devastated appearance. This is probably one reason why elephant frequently cross the river into Namibia, placing themelves at risk because the Namibian side is unprotected. |
