My son had just taken up a position at Singita Lodge, Sabi Sand, so my wife and I helped the family with their move to Singita. When we arrived we found that a female leopard had taken to leaving her two cubs at the house, presumably feeling that this was safe place for them while she went hunting. On the first night there we heard a rumpus on the verandah, and on opening our bedroom curtains found the mother sitting right beside the glass sliding door looking in at us. The little ones were playing on and around the verandah furniture. The photos are not the best, for the cubs were most active at dawn and dusk when the light was low. What was interesting was that the cubs paid us no heed whatsoever, and happily trashed the stoep furniture and fittings, drinking from the swimming pool when the fancy took them. |
