Tanzanian subspecie, there are 4 recognized subspecies of Phacochoerus africanus, P. a. massaicus being found in eastern and central Africa, including: Zambia, Malawi, Northern Mozambique, Tanzania and southern Kenya. Grubb (1993) distinguished them from skull variations, and Muwanika et al. (2003) looked at mitochondrial haplotypes clustered into 3 clades, from western, eastern and southern Africa. |
