For years I have known the strongly-coloured and boldly patterned bushbuck in the Victoria Falls - Chobe region as Chobe Bushbuck, yet they are not, despite their very different colouring and bolder patterning, acknowledged as different. Comments, please? |

Very interesting, the name Chobe Bushbuck. Kingdon (2015) groups 12 of 27 Bushbuck sub-species under "Harnessed Bushbucks" - one being T. s. ornatus occuring in Zambia, northern Mozambique, northern Botswana and the Caprivi. Smithers' editions 1986 and 1990 also mention this sub-specie - "dark red with distinct white stripes and spots". But neither has the local name printed with the sub-specie. |
