Notes:   Pale coloured larva found by itself on Sclerocroton integerrimus (integerrimum)[Duiker Berry]. It was collected along with some other larvae elsewhere on the plant on 29 June 2010. This pale larva is shown in comparison to another larva of the same species on 30 June 2010. The pale larva grew slightly larger than the other larvae, formed a green pupa (slightly larger than the others), and hatched out on 11 July 2010 as a large female Sevenia boisduvali. The tree on which she was collected also displayed an unusual characteristic in that on at least two flower spikes, there were two female flowers at the base of the male flowers, whereas it is said there should only be one female flower per spike. The butterfly was released at Amanzimtoti Bird Sanctuary. [Full report and more pics available].
