This is a species in the family Rhachiberothidae, which is characterized by the raptorial forelegs, similar to Mantispidae. The males of this species have vesicles in the wings -hence the name vesicaria. This species is fairly widespread in southern Africa: recorded from South Africa, Namibia and Zimbabwe. In SA it has been recorded from Limpopo, Mpumalanga, North West, Gauteng, Northern Cape and Eastern Cape Provinces. So a first for Botswana and the VM. They are thought to develop as inquilines in the nests of wood-boring termites. |
