This species seems to be fairly widespread in SA, but it forms a species complex with I. peringuey and I. vansoni, and possible synonymy. The group requires revision. Whatever, this is a very characteristic species owing to the red patterns of the body that show up well in these pictures. Italochrysa species are known to be inquilines in ant's nests in the larval stage, similar to lycaenid butterflies. |
