Notes:   Though encountered twice within 100 metres, I suspect that this lacewing is the same specimen. When taking photo's this takes off like a rocket, indeed quite startling events!

Comment:   This is one of the largest species of antlions. In South Africa, it only occurs along the northern KZN coastal belt as far south as Durban. It extends northwards to coastal Kenya, and is fairly common in the coastal dune forests of KZN and Mozambique and is protected within the iSimangaliso ans St Luciaareas. The large red, green and black banded larvae live freely in sand.
