Two prostrate Fish Eagles, gorged to immobility, with a Marabou Stork. Lake Zibadianja was visibly rising, and we stoof by its advancing edge as water trickled in and over its flat grassy shore. With the water came a variety of small aquatic life, and as the water advanced it drove from the topsoil and grasses thousands of insects, worms, grubs and other small creaures. Along with the fish eagles, the following species were exploiting this windfall: Pied Kingfisher, Marabou Stork, Comb Duck, Great Egret, Woolly-necked Stork, Cattle Egret, White-faced Duck, Burchell's Starling, Southern Carmine Bee-eater, Lilac-breasted Roller,Black Heron, Little Egret, Sacred Ibis, Glossy Ibis, Saddle-billed Stork, Blacksmith Lapwing, Long-toed Lapwing, YEllow-billed Duck, Ruff, and African Jacana. |
