   [ Record 3 of 3 ]
BirdPix:   66583
Province:   Mpumalanga
Country:   South Africa
Locus:   2431CD
Observer:   Kennedy D.
Date of record:   2018-11-30
Number of photos:   2
Notes:   This was the last photo I took on the trip, of two buffalo far down the Sand River. On checking the photo I noticed an Oxpecker sitting on the beast on the left. It was far too small to blow up effectively, but the bird a) has no yellow eyering and b) it has a very distinct pale rump. The bill area is too small to enlarge: one can see red, and maybe a trace of yellow at the base of the bill. But based on the absent eyering and the pale rump, I am confident that it is a Yellow-billed Oxpecker, unusual in that area.
