Fairly common and widespread in the northern provinces of SA, Limpopo, Mpumalanga, North West, extending into Mozambique, Zimbabwe, Malawi, Tanzania, Swaziland, with very few records from Zambia. Flies very late in summer - March to April. It is one of the largest species of antlions known anywhere in the world. The large black larvae live freely in soil and sand. A very nice record for Zambia. |
