Atlas of African Lepidoptera

Record details

   [ Record 3 of 4 ]
LepiMAP:   735
Province:   Western Cape
Country:   South Africa
Locus:   3418AB
Observer:   Johnson S. & Johnson J.
Date of record:   2008-01-12
Number of photos:   3
Notes:   Related to records 649 and 734. The mulberry is growing in a pot and is overshadowed by a Cape Ash. To ensure positive identity of the tree, I cut off a small branch and took it to a more knowledgeable friend who confirmed it was a Cape Ash. As part of the identification process we removed a leaf stem and to our amazement found another pupa of the butterfly hanging from it. I now have the pupa in my house in that there was no way to re-attach it to the tree so, hopefully, it will emerge in due course. Update: pupa emerged 16 January 2008, adult photo with this record.
